As he embarked on the short journey from his Grand Forks office to the undisclosed premises, Turner couldn't help but hope that the Mata, local newspapers, had not yet seized upon the unfolding drama. However, his aspirations for discretion were quickly shattered upon arrival when he found one of his deputies engaged in a futile attempt to shoo away a persistent reporter from the Bismarck Daily Tribune.

The sensors above the entrance, hyper-sensitive and prone to false alarms triggered by passing cars rather than human visitors, had failed to alert him. It wasn't until a low cough reached his ears that he reluctantly lowered the paper, discovering an elderly woman cautiously eyeing him.
