Ways to Reduce Knife Crime

In London

As we all know, knife crime has become a big issue in our communities and I have decided to come up with a few ways we could reduce knife crime. The knife crime rates have been increasing massively in London and it’s massively affecting young adults and children. A lot of people suggest we ban drill-music, which I understand to a extent because that type of music can glorify the negative behaviour that’s been going in the streets of London.

As we all know, black on black is the most common knife crime and this is affecting the black communities. Being a black young man who has lost friends due to knife crime, I feel I should have my say in this upsetting situation.

Here are three ways to reduce knife crime.

1. Youth Clubs

Yes, I know we’ve all heard this one before, but I strongly believe that if there were better run youth clubs and youth programs in the black community, it could make a positive change. But of course, we would need funding. Have you seen the state of some of these places? We would definitely need better facilities.

I believe most knife crimes occur because of money and boredom. The busier young people are the less trouble, of course, it’s easier said than done, but that’s what I strongly believe.

2. Education

I could literally name over 500 people who I personally know who was permanently excluded from high school things are getting a lot worse day by day. Schools should take more time to educate these younger kids, 11-16, about the real world. This means that they should talk to the kids about things that actually matter. Yes, I believe stop and search is a good way to make a change, but it has to be done correctly These young kids should be searched before and after school. Schools need to start educating and treating kids in the right manor think about it some kids don’t have a mum or dad at home to guide them so their teachers are all they've got.

3. Easier Access to Jobs

I’ve spoken to a few friends people and they seem to agree that money is the biggest issue. And I myself would agree. It’s harder for us black males to get part-time jobs or involved in activities because we are prejudged before we even open our mouths. The sad truth is most young black men start looking to the darker side and begging selling drugs for this reason and involve themselves in gang-related activities. Money is the biggest route to evil; I myself have made mistakes in the past so I can relate.

There’s a solution to everything I’m sure there are other ways to reduce knife crime but I believe these three ways are vital.
