Five Books About Relationships
I often struggle to pin down what exactly my favourite types of book are (so don't ask!), but one theme I'll often come back to in my reading is that of relationships. Whether it be between couples or workmates or children, I love books that focus on relationships and character interactions. Bonus points for realism! Here are five books that do that excellently.

Six Stories My Mother Gave MeTop Story - September 2018
I have always loved books, and I give my wonderful mother full credit for encouraging and indulging that love when I was growing up. She started by reading to me, and when I was older we'd stand in front of our copious library and she'd pull her favourites from the shelf and pile them up in my arms for me to read in my own time. She never patronised me by fobbing me off with teen lit (I could find that for myself at school), and I really love her for that. We still talk and discuss and disagree about books today! These are some of the stories she either read to me or gave to me thinking that I might find them interesting.

Six Books I Love
I recently got tagged in a Facebook challenge to post the covers of six books I loved without any commentary. I love challenges like that; they remind me of all the wonderful books I've read over the years. Narrowing it down to six was tricky! But here are the six I chose and the reasons why.

Such Very Good Advice
There's a scene in the original 1951 Alice in Wonderland movie that always used to upset me when I was little. It's when Alice is lost in the forest and sits down in the middle of a clearing. She sings a lovely little song about how if she'd only follow the good advice she gave herself, then she wouldn't get into so much trouble. You can watch it on YouTube and it always used to get to me as a child. Alice bursts into tears, the strange animals burst into tears, and everything seems totally hopeless. Poor Alice is lost and confused and frustrated with herself. The animals can't do anything to help and so just fade away.

Small Traumas (1)
"You don't like that word, trauma, do you?" My therapist looked at me with her unnervingly astute eyes. She had a beaked nose and a no-nonsense attitude that I liked, up to a point at least. I'd missed two days of work due to anxiety and my school had put me in touch with the council therapy service. I got six free sessions.
