Lam Kor Wan When Arrested

This post includes explicit content. WARNING.

Lam Kor Wan, or infamously known as Jars murderer, was born on 22 May 1955 in Malaysia.

As a child, he was often abused by his father; this stopped when the whole family decided to move to Hong Kong when he was still a little boy.

He was a loner throughout his childhood, and as a teenager, his hobbies were photography and often keeping to himself.

As a young man, he started working as a night-shift taxi driver and shared a tiny apartment on To Kwa Wan, a bay located in Kowloon with his mother and brother. This proved to be convenient for Lam when he had just started his killing spree.

He used to work at night, driving around the busy district of Hong Kong such as Tsim Sha Tsui, where he picked up women late at night, and then he strangled them and brought them back home where he used to hide them underneath the sofa until his brother and mother were out to work. Then he started dismembering his victim.

His First Victim:

On the night of 3rd February 1982, at 4:00 am, a woman named Chan Fung Lan hailed to Lam and his taxi.

She was half drunk after partying with her sister at a bar in Tsim Sha Tsui. She went home first; before entering the taxi, she had vomited on the street.

During this ride with the partially drunken women, something in Lam snapped and he strangled her with an electric wire.

At around 5:00 am, he drove home, the street was empty so he dragged her across the street and into his apartment where the guard was asleep. He hid the body beneath the sofa and went to his room and slept, where he waited for his mother and brother to wake up and go work.

When they were gone, he covered his room with paper and using a saw, he dismembered the body, kept her sexual organs in a Tupperware jar filled with formaldehyde.

He later wrapped the body parts such as the head and torso and kept them in the boot of his car. Later on in the night, he dumped them in the Shing Mun River in Sha Tin.

The body was found the next day when it was rushed to the shore and authorities could not identify the remains.

Over the next seven months, he went on to kill and dismember three other women.

The Second and Third Victim:

He found the second and third women under familiar circumstances, in busy districts and outside bars, but with the second victim, he performed an act of necrophilia on her, an act he admitted he was "embarrassed by" even though he felt no attraction towards her.

After this he dismembered the body and kept some of the body parts as trophies in jars, he was notoriously named "Jars Murderer" by the press.

The Last Victim:

The last victim was different than the rest, she was Laung Wai Sum, a seventeen-year-old who had just attended her graduation dinner and before it ended, she decided to leave and hailed Lam's taxi.

This victim was different because Lam picked her up at 9:30 pm, which was a little too early compared to his previous killings, so he handcuffed the girl to the seat and talked to her about religion.

This went on until 4:00 when Laung fell asleep and Lam strangled her, when he took her home and started preparing to take photos of the bodies in conspicuous positions, he dropped a lamp on the girl's thigh and burned it.
